KU Emblem – The Pen and the Sword

The KU emblem is based on the Japanese phrase Bun Bu Ryo Do. Bun Bu Ryo Do translates into “the pen and the sword”. Other interpretations are “the warrior and the scholar” or “war and peace”. This revolves around the philosophy that there is a need for balance between physical training and literary, cultural and intellectual pursuits.
